No Computer Skills?

Believe it or not, an applicant recently told me that they had never gotten comfortable using a computer and was leaving a job after 25+ years because they were told to get comfortable using one. The job this person performs absolutely should come with the expectation that the staffer is at least somewhat literate. My belief is that the individual survived because they had tenure and would have been hard to release. Lacking the willingness to be computer literate in the 2020's is simply unacceptable to me.

Consulting Opportunity

Our client is offering a 4-6 month opportunity to lead a comprehensive HITRUST assessment including implementation of tools such as SIEM solutions, MDA and MFA and programs such as Disaster Recovery and Risk Assessment. Qualified candidates will be well versed  with HITRUST MyCSF portal and have led at least one HITRUST assessment.  The position will be a hybrid mix with at least two days per week onsite at the client's location in the Far Hills NJ area.  Candidates must reside within commuting range.  Only those candidates able to work in the U.S. without sponsorship will be considered at this time.  Resumes to harold@smartstff.jobs or call Harold Levin at 908-508-0300, ext. 104.

Positivity!!!!!

Positivity is important when job searching. With the impacts of Covid-19, positivity has become even more crucial. Many governors have accelerated the return to normalcy in sports venues, theaters, dining establishments, houses of worship, etc. in response to a decrease in new cases and the rapid distribution of vaccines. While it is too soon to tell if this will go smoothly, the result of this process will be the need for more onsite workers across the board.

If a company tells you that a job opening will require you to report to the worksite rather than virtually, that is a choice the potential employer has the right to make. You will have to decide whether you are interested in a job which requires this to happen. Certainly, you are the one that must make this decision but don't interview for an on site job if you are uncomfortable.

Also, whatever you do, respond about your preferences positively and never accuse the company of making a poor choice by not allowing virtual work. The organization has to make business decisions in order to stay afloat. Negativity could come back to haunt you as you might want to reapply down the road and/or that hiring manager could move on to another company and could paths with you. Positivity is so critical to maintain at all times!

Some Random Thoughts

Some random thoughts on a Friday afternoon:

Waiting until your unemployment benefits run out to start job searching is quite risky.
Resigning from a job (temp or perm) by email on a Sunday evening is not a wise way to move on.
Being totally inflexible when attempting to hire a new employee can lead to work piling up and deadlines going unfulfilled.
Having an open mind and positive attitude when seeking new employment is extremely critical to your future success.
Demonstrating a willingness to train and pay a market-friendly salary will draw new talent to your company.
Whether you are looking for a work or a hiring manager, out-of-the box thinking is invaluable!
