Resume Thoughts

I just received a resume from a candidate who used eight pages to detail a six year career. That is certainly not a good idea. Prioritize, condense, and assess the need for so much repetitive information! John R. Fugazzie MBA Patty Kremen, Barbara Sunberg, Esq. Elise Prezant Susan English Sheri D. Adventures in Staffing, Part 15

Adventures in Staffing, Part 15. "Find me a new job." "Hi, do you have any jobs for me?" "I'm unemployed because no one got me a new job."
I have heard those lines, and many similar versions, for over thirty years. Guess what? That is not how it works (remembering the old ETrade commercials)!
The only way you will succeed in your job search is to fully immerse yourself and take charge. Certainly, career coaches, staffing firms, unemployment counselors, networking groups, etc. are all must have resources but you need to be the navigator and coordinator. Taking owner ship has been something I have preached for years and it never gets old! Elise Prezant Patty Kremen,

Adventures in Staffing, Part 14

Today's adventure takes us to the present. My home state of NJ is gradually reopening its doors and people are ever so slowly going back to work. From what I can tell, many companies are still in assessment mode as to their staffing needs (please contact me when you have a handle on things) but a few others have immediate openings. The dilemma I am sensing is that with supplemental unemployment benefits being provided, many individuals are not enthusiastically considering the opportunities out there. Unfortunately, starting salaries after a catastrophic time will drop for a few years. If you are able to ramp up your search now, do so and be realistic as many more people will be on the market as soon as their unemployment benefits are terminated. Adventures in Staffing, Part 13

On a sunny Tuesday morning, I was sitting at my desk reflecting on a meeting I attended the night before and realizing I should have not stayed up until midnight watching Monday Night Football. All of a sudden, the radio station I was tuned to stopped their music format to talk about the first of what would be several terror attacks using hijacked aircraft. As the horrible tragedy unfolded, our phones went silent and remained that way for several weeks. Recovery was slow but we eventually ramped back up.

I have witnessed many catastrophic situations during thirty plus years in the staffing world. This current situation is a mixed bag consisting of an unwieldy pandemic, civil unrest, a corresponding recession, and the ongoing weakening of world peace.

My recommendation to those in need of work is extremely basic. Be happy when you receive a job order, graciously accept it knowing that pay rates are going to be less aggressive for the next year or two. With record numbers of unemployed job seekers out there, I would hate for you to pass something up and stay on the sidelines for longer than necessary. #jobmarket #jobhunt #unemployed #jobadvice #gethired #jobseekers #Covid19jobs #PandemicImpact
