Defensive Job Search Methods

A candidate recently responded to my listing for a particular position.  It clearly identified me as representing a staffing firm.  The candidate's first comment was they don't like to deal with staffing firms because they are just collecting resumes.
Why on earth would you send your resume if you prefer not to deal with me?  By the way, I did advertise a really great position with a great client!  I do understand the individual's concerns and know that some companies do simply collect resumes but getting defensive right away sends a rather negative signal.
First impressions still mean a lot to an old school recruiter like myself and I have very deep memory! This impression also makes me wonder how the candidate will do on an interview with my client.  Please choose your words and attitude carefully while searching for a new job.

Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner needed in Chatham NJ

Driver's Seat

Today, I spoke with a potential candidate for a temporary customer service opportunity with one of my client companies.  The candidate's resume did not contain educational history.  My client requires a Bachelor's degree for this role so I asked if the candidate had earned one.  When they said no, I explained that it was a prerequisite to moving along with the application process.  The individual said my client was practicing discrimination and told me I should not represent them.

As a recruiter, it is my job to best fill the needs of my clients.  This is how I earn my living!  Of course, I always suggest alternatives such as two years of college couple with extra work experience, but that is not my decision to make. Please remember that the hiring company always sits firmly in the driver's seat!

UPS announced plans to hire more than 1,500 people to fill seasonal and permanent jobs in the Harrisburg area.

The world's largest package delivery company is in the process of hiring about 95,000 people nationwide as it gears up for a busy holiday shipping season. The seasonal and permanent jobs available in Harrisburg include part-time package handlers, drivers, and driver-helpers.

Package car driver jobs start at $18.75 per-hour and pay for package handlers and driver-helpers starts at $10.15 per-hour, UPS said in a prepared release.
