Honesty!!!

When interviewing for a job, always be truthful and honest. Beyond the obvious fact checking which the internet & social media make it easy to do, many interviewers read between the lines to identify possible red flags. Alot of people know people who may know you. Be honest!

Flexibility Works!

After working in the staffing field for parts of four decades, nothing really ever surprises me anymore. Sometimes, there are moments when I think a placement opportunity has been lost but a silver lining develops! This week, after accepting a long-term assignment, a candidate had to back out on short notice due to a serious personal emergency. Even though the staffing need is time sensitive, the client recognized this was out of my control and gave me the chance to refill it rather than moving on to another staffing firm. The candidate I identified as a replacement happens to be spectacular and will do excellent work for my valued customer. Flexibility by both candidate and client contributed to this but, as a recruiter, it is critical to remember that the hiring company's best interests are most important to a recruiting firm. hashtagclientservices hashtagcustomersareinvaluable hashtagjobsearch

Social Media and Job Search

This is a friendly reminder that potential employers are more proactively looking for any Social Media sites which their candidates tend to frequent.  Yes, we do have freedom of speech but treat that more as a privilege than an entitlement.  Remember, none of us are entitled to employment but many of us enjoy the privilege of working.  While we are allowed to have our personal beliefs on politics, for example, if you are a good Mechanical Engineer, your choice political parties should not matter.  Keep your personal beliefs out of your Social Media posts as the mix of work and politics never ends very well. #employment #recentgrads #careerservices #jobseekers

Career Services

Colleges and universities are very quick about sending fund raising letters to recent graduates.  Career Services offices at many colleges and universities (based on numerous conversations) are not so efficient at partnering with recent grads to guide them through the job search process.  No school should ever promise placement to anyone but they should provide high quality coaching and direction to their alumni such as interview skills, networking, and a simple list of places who have hired recent alums in their field of study.
