Adventures in Staffing, Part 24

Every so often, someone stands out as an individual who simply wants to work and make a living. Today, my wife and I decided to make a rare venture to a restaurant for lunch. While NJ has begun allowing limited indoor dining as of today, we chose a diner which set up a gigantic tent with impressive landscaping surrounding it and declined to sit in the dining room.

Our server looked quite familiar. In conversation, we learned he had worked at the diner for many years but left a while ago for a management opportunity at a chain eatery. He was laid off the day that NJ established Covid restrictions. After scraping by collecting unemployment and helping a friend in the landscaping field, the diner called him this week to wait on tables.

He told us he is grateful for the chance to get back to work, earn some money and, most important to him, get back among people. The past roughly six months have been disheartening for most of us and could continue to be well into 2021. Some individuals are struggling to come out the other end of this crisis yet others are being resilient and determined in their approaches. You can either sit on the street bench all day or jump on the first bus that shows up and see where it takes you. #future #grateful #covid
