HQ2's Impact

WCBS Newsradio 880 (NYC) reported this morning that employers around the city are worried that the eventual construction of Amazon's HQ2 could drain their talent pools which will hurt their business flow.  As a recruiter, I have a few observations.
First, if employers treat their staff fairly and offer them competitive salaries and benefits, many will choose to stay put.
Second, from what I have seen of Amazon, their technology is vastly different from many traditional employers and the talent needed might not be readily available in and around NYC.
Third, not everyone is going to forsake their tenures at well established, locally based firms to jump aboard a ship which flirted with over 200 cities before deciding where to park itself for the time being.
Fourth, the culture of a massive company may not fit everyone who works for you.  Maintain the great environment you have built and things should work out well!
