As a rookie recruiter in the 1980's, we did not have the internet to help us find candidates. Our main resources were binders of accumulated resumes, responses to newspaper advertisements, referrals (still true today), and cold calling people sourced from trade news articles and business directories. Other than perhaps a brief daytime conversation, we made most of our contacts in the evening. I remember sitting by my house phone from 6:30 -9:30 PM making calls to candidates. Texting and email did not exist so most productive recruiting calls took place after the common work day ended. There are days when I wish for a return to the basics of the placement world!
