Placement Flashbacks (Memories from over 30 years in the staffing field). #4.

Placement Flashbacks (Memories from over 30 years in the staffing field). #4.

I learned a lesson roughly thirty-five years ago which still holds true today. A successful recruiter does not need to be capable of personally performing the job they are recruiting for. More importantly, they need to be able to ask strong questions of the hiring manager, willing to study resumes of candidates who do the work needed, perform some research on the industry, client, and role they are searching for. For example, my college degree was in Government but my first placements were a Motor Coil Re-winder, Computer Operator, Maintenance Mechanic, Welder among others. Understanding what makes a good candidate, what will satisfy your client, and how to comprehend which skills are important to possess in order to have a long career in the staffing world.
